OUR HISTORY

The Chickahominy Baptist Association was organized in 1907 at Springfield Baptist Church. Sam Mitchell Washington headed up the movement assisted by Rev. John L. Brown and Reverend Samuel Allen who suggested the name.

 

The first officers were: Reverend Mitchell Washington, Moderator, Reverend J. L. Brown, Vice Moderator, Deacon Richard H. Tinsley, Secretary and John H. Crockett, Treasurer.The Executive Board Members consisted of the following members: Deacon Samuel H. Hill, Phillip H. Dandridge, Harvey Yates, William Randolph, Thomas J. Bolling, and William H. Morton.

 

The Charter Churches were: Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, First Union Baptist Church, Zion Hill Baptist Church, Second Union Baptist Church, Nazarene Baptist Church, and Pottomoi Baptist Church.
